Privacy Policy

GapDon is a real-time, two-way voice translator. You speak, and the app translates your speech into the other person's language out loud — and their reply back into yours. Doing that requires processing your voice, so we want to be precise about what we collect, why, and how you get rid of it.

This policy applies to the GapDon mobile app for Android and iOS. If you disagree with it, please do not use the app.

1. Information we collect

Account information

When you sign in with Google, Apple or an email address, we receive and store your name, email address, profile photo (if your provider supplies one) and which sign-in method you used. If you continue as a guest, we do not collect your name or email — only a random identifier generated for your device so that your session can be restored.

Voice, transcripts and translations

During an active translation session, audio captured by your microphone is streamed to our servers, where it is converted to text, translated, and synthesized back into speech. We store the resulting session records: the recognized text, its translation, and the audio of the turn, so that you can reopen the conversation later in the History tab.

The microphone is used only while a translation session is running. The app does not listen in the background and does not record when no session is active.

App preferences

Your interface language, speech speed and voice preference are stored with your account so they follow you across devices.

Approximate location (country only)

At the start of a session we determine your country — from your IP address and your device's region setting — in order to suggest the right language pair (for example, English when you are in the UK). GapDon does not request GPS or precise-location permission and does not track your movements.

Device and usage data

Through Firebase (Google) we collect standard analytics and diagnostics: app version, device model, operating system, sign-in events, crashes and errors. If you allow notifications, we store a push token so we can deliver them.

2. How we use your information

• To perform the translation you asked for — speech recognition, translation and speech synthesis.
• To keep your conversation history available to you in the app.
• To create and secure your account, and to restore your session.
• To send notifications you have opted into.
• To diagnose crashes, fix bugs and improve translation quality.
• To detect abuse and protect the service.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your voice recordings or conversations for advertising.

3. Who we share it with

We share data only with service providers that make the app work, and only to the extent they need it:

• Google Firebase — authentication, analytics, push notifications, app configuration.
• Apple — when you use Sign in with Apple.
• Speech and translation providers — to convert speech to text, translate it, and generate the spoken translation.
• Hosting providers — to run our servers and store your session records.

We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.

4. How long we keep it

• Account data — for as long as your account exists.
• Sessions, transcripts and audio — until you delete them, or until your account is deleted.
• Guest data — removed when the guest session is no longer used.
• Security logs — kept for a short period (up to 90 days) for abuse prevention.

When you request deletion, we remove your data within 30 days.

5. Your rights and choices

You can request access to your data, correct it, or have it deleted. You can revoke microphone and notification permissions at any time in your device settings — the app will simply stop being able to translate until you grant the microphone again.

6. Security

All traffic between the app and our servers — including the live audio stream — is encrypted in transit (HTTPS / WSS). Access to stored data is restricted to authorized personnel. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep yours safe.

7. Children

GapDon is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

8. International transfers

Our providers may process data on servers outside your country. In doing so we rely on the safeguards those providers offer for international data transfers.

9. Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes will be announced in the app.
